Owl of the Week 6

A friend asked me to post more owl art. I’m sorry I’ve been falling down on the job. Oh sh*t. Was that another apology?

For your viewing pleasure:

Source: Gustoff Marshfield. Or this is some German tribute to him? Maybe I should rename my blog “Owls on Skulls”.

If You Buy These Things For Me, I Will Pay You Back In Love

“Seasoning malfunctioning is just like a misery raining day that ruins everything.” – That is an actual tagline from the kedo website. It is from the Introduction of their TeruTeru product. What is it you might ask? A salt & pepper shaker. Or maybe you could get their other seasoning shakers! They come in a… small variety. But they are beautiful:

Everything on the kedo site is fun and imaginative, but replaces common household items, such as a tea mug that has buttons on the side! So cute, but useful. You wrap the string of your tea bag around the button. What? I don’t drink tea, but I know a hundred people who need this. Okay, maybe ten.

Their coffee cup is just as weird. “Has life been a drag? Over busy lifestyle makes us loose interest to anything. And even a cup looks like other million cups it has no interesting point to be brought into you visual field.” This looks strange, I know, yet each piece serves a purpose:

But I think my favorite has to be the ice cream bowls. There have been companies who thought of the bowl/spoon merge, sure. Yet, these spoons are not like any spoon I’ve seen.

(Ice cream not included.)

I tried to find prices or mailing info on this site, I really did. It is impossible. This damn artsy company (which seems confused on what it’s name means – one section says “Keep Experience Design Object” the other says “Keenness Experience Design Originality”) appears based in Taiwan? So any inquiries are directed there. Start saving up your yuĆ”ns because I expect all of these by the Winter Solstice.

Geek Spin

I just have a link today for my last day of art week. I wanted to share Underneath It All. I can’t really post this image on my blog because it’s freakin’ huge, plus the idea is to be able to flip it around on the site.

I hope y’all don’t have the same loading problems I did, but the piece wasn’t loading correctly at first for me. My resolution was to take the un-flipped image which is here and when I flipped it upside down on the main page, it worked, but required some reloading (it’s the same link as the first one).

It’s 8-bit art of awesome.

Classy

As we are going into our fourth day of Art Week, I want to make things a little sexier. Ever wonder who made that classic Bond art or designed those Romance novel covers? Robert McGinnis, that’s who. Arriving from the classic 60’s/70’s era of illustration, I present some of his works including the famous Breakfast at Tiffany’s movie poster:

Click on Mr. McGinnis’s name for lots & lots more images (for some reason on a Russian site?). Fair warning, there are several nudes (classy pin-up types of course), so it is slightly NSFW. And thanks once again for tuning in.

I Feel Funny About This Part 2

Today is another fan art day. I hope I’m not losing some customers. I have choosy tastes when it comes to fan art. I know what I like and that’s often very little. I have a hard time joining fan groups because that means *art* will crop up. The uncomfortable type. The type that I feel the urge to use “constructive criticism” on, but don’t want to hurt my newfound imaginary Internet friends. Their imaginary love means so much! I’m sorry, a little PTSD there. I have tried my hand at fan art and maybe it’s because I SUCK SO HARD that it comes across as bitterness, but I do have a discerning eye and it takes a special talent to get my attention. Even then it still makes me feel funny.

This here art from tentaclees is located at the Deviant Art boards. Her general art is pretty awesome, but most of her work seems fan-based. I guess I connect because I’m familiar with most of her subjects, but I really just like her style. I always like to think that if I had continued to pursue drawing I wouldn’t suck so badly today. I think actually attending an art class in high school messed me up. … Off track again. Today’s not been a good day for me.

tentaclees’ subjects cover Harry Potter, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (friends can verify I was concernedly obsessed with J. Vasquez’s works in college), MST3K, Gorillaz (Noodle mostly), Metalocalypse, The Venture Brothers (my computer’s name is Dr. Girlfriend so we approve), and countless other sci fi/fantasy/video game titles. Here are a few choice works, though the artist seems quite prolific:

Sorry the images are so large. For some reason WP disobeys my orders for thumbnails so images tend to be readjusted. Even if none of these do it for you, you can still check out the gallery in the link above (or click on any image) because it seems like art my audience would be into. If I have an audience. Hello?
…thump thump thump thump *slam*
Oh well.

I Feel Funny About This

I can’t tell if this ruins my childhood or makes it better. In my previous post I had noted I was searching for Peppermint Patty images and found some odd connections. One was an artist called gNAW (it’s over at a furry gallery, so blame Google for that) who seems to have a different take on the Peanuts gang. When artists do anime/manga make-overs of comics it can be hit or miss, but I’m pretty blown away by this:

Click on any of the images for a better view or if you visit the artist’s gallery there are several more “Peanutz” pieces.

No God Could Create These Abominations

Thankfully they’re fictional! I realized yesterday that I was getting hair that resembled Peppermint Patty’s. Unsure of this, I Googled images of her (avoid including “Marcie” in your search, FYI, if safe search is off). Within the first few images that cropped up was a likeness of her internal structure. There is an artist who takes cartoons and comics and does “character studies” of them. He has a fairly good grasp on skeletal anatomy (as far as I can note) and his study choices are… uh… effective:

If you think these are totally awesome/bizarre/must-haves you can check his site Michael Paulus or just the character study series or browse his Etsy store.

So this week it looks like I’m doing an art week. My search lead me on a strange, dark path and I have some ideas that will hopefully get me in a more creative mood than the quick pics that I did last week.
